The Artist's Guide to Renting and Buying Work Space

Square Feet: The Artist's Guide to Renting and Buying Work Space is a resource manual for artists, arts organizations and collectives looking to rent or buy work space. Square Feet Manual PDF

The displacement of artists from the neighbourhoods they helped enliven is not a new phenomenon. But something has changed in the real estate market: a variety of factors simultaneously at play now threaten the places where artists live and work, and the dynamic energy they bring to the life of the city.

Square Feet answers the questions Artscape hears most often: How do I go about finding a space? Gross lease, net lease, net-net lease - what's the difference? Should I consider buying a place? What are my rights as a tenant? This manual answers these questions and many, many more.

Originally published in 2002, Artscape is currently working on raising the funds necessary to update Square Feet. We hope to publish the new edition in the near furture.
